Dickenson County
is located in the southwest portion of the state of Virginia.
The county was formed
In 1880
from land taken from
Wise, Buchanan, and Russell Counties. I
Dickenson is the youngest of Virginia's one hundred counties.
Clintwood High School was one of three high schools in Dickenson County, Virginia. In the 2015-2016 year it consolidated with
Haysi and Ervington High Schools to form Ridgeview High School.
The Clintwood Boys Basketball Team won two state championships, in 1950 and 1951.
Clintwood won three state football championships (1974, 1975, and 1978) under legendary coach Ralph Cummins,
who coached for 35 years.
