    Description

The Viking, the 1931 George Melford ("who made 'The Sheik'") & Varick Frissell Canadian/U.S. Newfoundland romantic love triangle action adventure disaster melodrama ("The picture that cost the lives of Varick Frissell and 25 others in the Sealer Viking Disaster."; "The First ALL-TALKER made in the Arctic - A drama of fighting love."; "Actually produced during the Great Newfoundland Seal Hunt and You see the REAL thing"; "Produced by Varick Frissell"; about a seal hunter in Newfoundland and a down-and-out fellow who both compete for the same girl; the seal hunter takes the down-and-out man hunting and tries to kill him so he can win the girl, but he ends up blinded, and amazingly, the other man rescues him, which causes the seal hunter to become his best friend!; the movie was shot on location, and the boat used in the movie, "The Viking", exploded and sank during filming and 25 of the men were killed, and, in typical Hollywood style, this was used as a selling point for the movie!) starring Bob Bartlett, Wilfred Grenfell, Louise Huntington (as "Mary Joe"), Charles Starrett, and Arthur Vinton.
